You can't make this stuff up. So, Christians are very vocal on Facebook. But if you read their threads, they are full of hypocrisy. For example, one posted this:

Talking about their desire to hunt down and kill duly elected Democrat officials in "Blue" states. They want to murder Democrats. As if Christians are not currently going around discriminating against, abusing and killing gay people. As if Christians are not shooting up gatherings, bombing Federal Buildings and saying we should execute homosexuals. Modern Christians. Lets not talk about their blood-soaked past - its only in the past they tortured and executed people, some being burned alive, for being "Witches" and Heretics. Its only in the past they invented torturous death machines to get innocent people to 'confess' to sins. Its only in the past that they lynched black people whom they considered to have no soul.
Y'all do realize that "Economic Growth" is an illusion, right?

In 1940, a 1 1/2 ounce piece of candy would cost you a nickle - 5 cents - $.05. (here) In 1999, that same piece of candy would cost you seventy cents - 14 nickles - 70 cents - $.70.

Now, do you think the value of that candy went up that much? No. What happened is that the value of that nickle went down.

What is happening is that the uber wealthy are picking your pockets without you realizing. Or you are just too scared to stand up to them.

How? Even though they have $100 dollars and you only have $1 dollar, they want that dollar of yours for themselves. So, they devalue your dollar, tell you that you now have $5 dollars. Then they take one of those dollars. Then they tell you that you have $10 dollars left. And take two of those dollars. Now, you think you have $8.00 - much better than the measly $1 you had before, right? Only, what you really have left is only worth 1/4 of the original dollar - 25 cents. But now they have $.75 cents of your original dollar, and you're happy with that. They're still scheming on how to get that last quarter.

They've been telling you that the people who do the work are not as important as those who have the money - STOP believing that. Its bull. Labor deserves compensation. "Investment" doesn't deserve anything - its a gamble that the company will do well. IF the company does well, after making good on it's responsibility to it's workers, then the investment should get a return. If the company doesn't do well, the investment should be lost. Investment returns should be the last consideration of a company. The absolute last. Returns on Investment are a by-product, NOT an end goal.
Some of y'all are thoroughly confused as to what the Electoral College is meant to be.

I'll start with "Tyranny of the Masses" - this was pulled from discussions on the separation of powers in our government, not the electoral college. (See Federalist Papers 10) We have a President (Executive), Congress (Legislative) and Supreme Court (Judicial). The independent branches were supposed to prevent a wholesale domination of the minority by the majority. It was supposed to be good people doing their job for the best interest of the Nation. (we have totally failed at that) In addition, the Congress was to be divided into a Senate and House of Representatives, elected differently. The senate consists of two members from each state, giving all states equal representation. (see The Senate) The House of Representatives was based on the population of a state, at around 60,000 per Representative. (See House of Representatives) The membership was to change based on a population census every 10 years.

The Electoral College was put in place because the Founders didn't trust the Citizens to always elect a competent person as President (sadly turns out they were right). They wanted Congress to elect the president. As a compromise, they came up with the Electoral College - where each state was given an Electoral Representative for each Congress-person, who would vote on president based on the votes of their citizens. So, two for the Senators, plus the number of Representatives (based on population). The idea was that if the citizens voted for a really bad choice, the Electoral College could change it, in the best interest of the Nation. (See Federalist Papers 68)

So, if the House of Representatives was still one representative for each 60,000 people in a state, we would have Five Thousand Four Hundred and Fifty Three members of the House. (US Population) Foreseeing this expanding population as a problem, in 1920, they pretty much skipped the reapportionment due to rural representatives stalling it. In 1929, they froze the House at the current 435 members. It was at this time the under and over representation started - states with a larger population started getting less representation and less populous states started getting more. (House vs Population)

I can find no reference to purposefully giving less populous states more voting power for president anywhere in Founding-Era documents. So, this is most assuredly NOT the original purpose of the Electoral College, as many corrupt individuals would have you believe. (Fact Check the Reason) The protection from the "Tyranny of the Majority" was in the division of powers between the three branches of government. This delusion that the Electoral College is supposed to give more power to less populous states had to take hold after some significant population growth after 1930, perhaps in the 1950's when the Nation started buckling to the corruption that has infested our government.

What needs to be changed in order to fix the Electoral College?
1. Adjust the membership of the House of Representatives as originally intended by losing the static number and adjusting the per-citizen ratio. (The Wyoming Rule would be a good method)
2. Set a law that a state's electors should be apportioned in relation to the vote of the state's citizens - in other words, abolish the winner-take-all rule.

We need to get to a place where we are more One Citizen, One Vote and restore the Electoral College to it's original purpose. Those who don't want equal representation, should move to their beloved Russia.
So.. since last post, I have moved to Saint Louis, MO. I am not dating anyone... not sure why. But, I do have a good job and I am Loving it here. Getting back to myself a bit more every day. Although yesterday (Valentine's Day) was pretty hard to get through.

I am trying to get a HashTag going so that I can be found online by using the tag - so #IamGraywalker is what I am trying to use. Yes, this post is an attempt to make that more searchable. :D

I'll try to fill this out a bit more with updates and other items shortly... stay tuned.
Probably need to update on my getting a land loan, truck breaking down, buying a car, adjusting to winter here, etc...

Yes, the Hashtag is working. Anyone smart enough can find this post. Probably the best place to contact me is on Facebook - http://www.facebook.com/bobby.kearan - PM something a bit more complex than "hi." and I will likely respond.
Paraphrased something I read today... "I have no patience for fake people,
whiny-little-bitches or liars. People whose idea of a vigorous discussion or
argumentation is to belittle people rather than defend your argument. People who are into flag banning,
flag burning or denying someone else's rights. People who support tyranny, racism, discrimination or
suffering. People who align themselves
against U.S. veterans or our founding fathers. People whose idea of fun involves hate-baiting, divisiveness or
general ass-hat-like behavior."

Someone commented on that, again paraphrased, "yeah, I can't stand liberals either."

Which took me by surprise, because I was thinking, "yeah, this guy can't stand conservatives."

I suppose that goes to show we each have our own pre-conceived notions. Only, I think mine can be shown to be true a lot easier than the other guy's.

"Fake people, whiny-little-bitches or liars" certainly makes me think 'conservative.' Damn near everything they (the public faces of the conservative movement) say is easily proven to be wrong or an outright lie. I burst forth into life, clinging to the limb high in a tree.
I grew, gaining life and giving life
doing my part.
I held on to the limb through high winds
through blazing heat, ups and downs
Over time I grew tired.
My green faded.
I learned to let go.
I became a leaf on the wind.
Spiraling down, soaring up
wherever the breeze pushed me.
I slowly descended, wondering
what would I find below?
I settled onto the river,
dancing on the water as it babbled,
flowed, eddied, crashed and rushed.
I learned to go with the flow,
going where fate may take me,
overcoming the rocks in the river.
Dancing ever slower.
I realize I am sinking into the water.
The water pulls me down even as it
fills me up.
I shall go under, settle and decay.
My wish is that I have become rich enough
in my life
That the leaves of the trees downstream
will be a little more green,
live a little bit longer, their trees stronger,
because I lived before them.
So, this has been a while coming. Recent Facebook conversations have got me thinking about why I feel offended by being required to listen to, if not participate in, Christian prayer in order to attend just about any supposedly public event.
I've been thinking - because an un-examined position is not a good one - about my reactions. Not even sure this is a good idea... but...

What offends me? The repeated idea that Their way is the only way. That people are powerless, needing to be possessed by some foreign spirit to even be able to walk - or do anything, win a sports competition, get over grief, make more money, etc. That a loving, all powerful deity is also a petty, vengeful one - kind of like an abusive boyfriend that will kill you if you don't love them back. That it is better to believe - or go through the motions of really believing - just in case it is true that this loving deity will send you off to be tortured for eternity if you don't. That people are basically cruel, evil beings in need of saving from themselves. That a lot of the same people Praying in public are 'sinning' - often in very nasty, harmful ways - in private. That a lot of people Praying for peace, love and understanding in public are also racist, hateful, mean spirited people - mostly in private, but even in public. Hypocrisy in general. I won't get into the anti-science and 'bible-based' bigotry.

I understand - from a first hand point of view - that if you seriously believe it, that you see wanting other people to believe as you do is the kind thing to do. I know it may be comforting to think some omnipotent, benevolent God is really paying attention to everything all the time - even you and your quest for a parking space. I know how hard it is to have that Faith stripped from you. Its not something I would wish on anyone.

So, I don't go around trying to convince Christians of what I know to be true. I don't try to force anyone to change their religion or open themselves to spiritual possession. I don't require anyone to meditate, take a shamanic journey, make offerings to Cernunnos or anything else to participate in any event or gathering.

Is a little reciprocal consideration too much to ask?

I don't 'cleverly' give people copies of "Conversations with God" or "Illusions." I don't invite people to a free dinner - without telling them it requires sitting through a presentation of The Secret before or during eating. I don't go around suggesting everyone get into Healing through Shamanism.
I grew up seeing the Southern Cross confederate flag (a stretch of one of many confederate flags) as a symbol of Southern Pride, doing the right thing, having a little fun - and the Dukes of Hazzard kind of good ole boys - never meaning no harm. For me, and many poor white folk in the south, it did not mean racism. It meant having a little pride when there was not much to be proud of. "We may have been beat, but we're not beaten." A symbol of "when you get knocked down, stand right back up!"

Now, I realize that all the talk about the Civil War was fought over State's Rights and Taxes and other stuff is, although founded in some actual issues of the time, just not really the case. Slavery was the cause for the Southern states.

"Our position is thoroughly identified with the institution of slavery--
the greatest material interest of the world. Its labor supplies the
product which constitutes by far the largest and most important portions
of commerce of the earth. These products are peculiar to the climate
verging on the tropical regions, and by an imperious law of nature, none
but the black race can bear exposure to the tropical sun." - from A Declaration of the Immediate Causes which Induce and Justify the
Secession of the State of Mississippi from the Federal Union.

That reality was, and is, hard to come to terms with. It goes against what I believed growing up, what I was told and taught.

The same with the Confederate Flag - the Southern Cross flag, which is a stretched out version of the battle flag of Virginia. We didn't see it as meaning what it does to so many. Coming to terms with the fact that it DOES represent Hate, Racism and Terror for a very large number of people was difficult. It is used by the KKK - a white christian hate group. It was created for that exact reason - to instill terror in people of color. For many people, it brings up images of burning crosses in yards, white hoods with weapons in hand, nooses, lynchings. The Southern Cross flag is to people of color what the Swastika is to the Jewish people. They are often waved together!

Knowing what it means to people of color, I can no longer imagine that it is anything but a symbol of terror. It has been hard losing what I thought it was... what it meant to me. But I could no more fly or defend the Southern Cross any more than I could fly or defend the Nazi flag.

Getting other people who grew up like I did to see that, to realize the facts and to support removing the flag from state flags and stop flying it or wearing it - that is going to be hard. You have to realize that for many of them it really does not represent slavery and hate. It represents at least a little something to be proud of, resilience, heritage, not being held down - hope. Destroying the symbols of people's childhoods doesn't make for a good basis for building relationships.

It is hard to realize that when you fly the Southern Cross flag, you are, even inadvertently, supporting things like this:

(More Here)

On the other side, it is important to realize that the Confederate Flag does represent Heritage and Southern Pride to a lot of people who are not racist. If you are looking to change hearts and minds, then desecrating memorials and graves is not the way to go about it. It would be better to help people realize what the flag means to those who have been terrorized by people waving it. Help people realize that just because they think of it one way, doesn't mean that other people see it the same way - and that sometimes it is worth giving up a symbol in order to not cause distress to others.

There are good people who really do not realize what the flag symbolizes for people of color. Losing a beloved reminder of their childhood, a piece of their pride, an image of resilience, is not going to be easy.

It can't be about what race has to be humble and apologize for past behavior. It has to be about coming to terms with the past, coming to an understanding of how things are and working together to move forward.

... on "how things are"... It doesn't take much to see that harsh laws are applied differently to black people than they are to white people. The question is how to stop it! From the obscene treatment of the Scott Sisters to the unequal application of Stand Your Ground, the ... the bullshit is systemic. Poor white people are often victims of our blatantly corrupt legal system, but not as often or too the same degree.

When we come to the realization that our we are not actually that different, that "Race" is propaganda, segregating ourselves based on the color of our skin is just plain silly and start to join together against the injustices that harm us all - that is when we start to make a difference.

The First Amendment is often cited. Most often, it is used improperly. I am going to make an effort to explain what the First Amendment means when it talks about Free Speech.

First off, the "Freedom of Speech" is not absolute. It does not give you the right to say anything you want, any time you want, any where you want. It does not protect you from the non-governmental consequences of your speech.

The right of Free Speech does not mean that you can say "Bless You" in the middle of class during school hours. It surely does not mean that you can then proceed to start an argument with your teacher in the middle of class and suffer no repercussions.

The only thing that the right to free speech affords you is that the government can not arrest you for simply saying something. Teachers can tell you not to talk in class unless called upon - including not saying "Bless You" when someone sneezes. Rules of the class. Police can open an investigation on you for saying something like "I want to kill the president" or "My heroin supplier was late, so I shot him and took all his stash." You can be arrested for shouting "Fire!" in a crowded theater or bar - if anyone hears you and a stamped occurs because you scared everyone - and fined for damages.

People are completely free to stop buying your products or shopping at your store because of anything you said that they didn't like. Your employer may fire you for saying bad things about the company.

Your right to free speech has other limits as well. You can't claim free speech when standing outside a classroom yelling the script to Monty Python and the Search for the Holy Grail. You are free to speak that somewhere else, like a public park. However, if you start doing that in a grocery store, they are totally free to kick you out.

Your right to Speak Freely is only protected from excessive suppression and obstruction by the Government. Freedom of Speech does not protect you from the social and civil consequences of what you have said.

I worked on a Visual Studio 2012 project pretty much all day yesterday. It was a Visual Basic .Net project.
I saved frequently. I debugged. I ran the project.

Overnight, windows updates (I am assuming) rebooted the system and, this morning - no more project. Gone. Nowhere (normal) to be seen. Apparently, I did not "save all" or save the project itself. So all that work and testing disappeared.

I googled. Nothing I found turned out to be helpful or if it seemed helpful, turned out to be untrue. I panicked! All that work gone - I saved!!! What the Funk!?!?!
"C:\Users\MyUserID\Documents\Visual Studio 2012\Backup Files" had MyProject folder. It was empty.

I cursed and searched, and cursed and searched... and then I found it:

"\\localhost\c$\Users\MyUserID\AppData\Local\Temporary Projects\MyProject" - it was all there!

I copied the folder to my documents. Then I copied the folder to my visual basic projects folder and opened the solution file. It is all there! Whew!

Why the \\localhost\c$ ? Well, I am on windows 8.1 and the "Previous Versions" tab is gone from File Explorer, but you can get to it using UNC to your own machine. Silly, I know.

I hope this helps someone else find their hard work that a stupid thing from Microsoft caused them to loose.

Its been said, many times, many ways, but again...

"Under God" was added to the Pledge in 1954, some sixty two years after it was written. God in Government was not part of our Nation when it was founded - quite the opposite. The Founders set our government up as being only about civil and common issues, leaving religion up to the individual.

It took the Civil War to allow the theocrats to insert "In God We Trust" onto coins, breaking a barrier our constitution had set up. Note that it was 88 years after the war for independence from a country who had the Church of England as it's official religion. How quick oppression was forgotten. But 88 years and "God" was no part of our federal government.

In 1956, during the paranoia of the Cold War, was when they changed our nation's motto from "E Pluribis Unum" ( Out of Many, One ) to "In God We Trust" - ideologically tossing roughly half our citizens out of the government and breaking our Unity. That was 180 years of Unity, broken by one vote in a paranoid congress.

If you are urging "God" and YOUR religion to be inserted into OUR government, then you do not respect our Country nor our Constitution.

I have no problem with you having your religion, practising your religion, going to your church, advertising your religion (despite your book's admonishments) or teaching your religion. The problem starts when you try to enforce your religion on others. It is especially problematic when you try to get our government to force your religion on me.

In the United States of America we share a common core, a belief in Freedom. We can, and should, rally around the core of Freedom of Religion, Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. Realizing and Embracing the notion that our Liberty ends when another person's begins and extending to all people each and every right we want for ourselves. This forms out of many people of different backgrounds, religions, races, orientations and persuasions, One Nation, Indivisible, with True Liberty, Justice and Equality for All.
Excerpts from the sources:

The Pledge of Allegiance

The Pledge of Allegiance was written in August 1892 by the socialist
minister Francis Bellamy (1855-1931). It was originally published in The Youth's Companion on September 8, 1892. Bellamy had hoped that the pledge would be used by citizens in any country.
In its original form it read:

"I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which
it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

In 1954, in response to the Communist threat of the times, President
Eisenhower encouraged Congress to add the words "under God," creating
the 31-word pledge we say today. Bellamy's daughter objected to this
alteration.
The
motto IN GOD WE TRUST was placed on United States coins largely because
of the increased religious sentiment existing during the Civil War.

urging that the United States recognize the Deity on United States coins. ....

Frank Lambert

1639...Those Puritan Fathers exemplify two of the most enduring views of
colonial America: America as a haven of religious freedom, and America
as a Christian Nation. First, the Puritan settlers had fled England,
where Archbishop William Laud had persecuted them because they refused
to subscribe to religious beliefs and practices that they deemed to be
unscriptural. Now in the American wilderness, they were free to worship
according to the dictates of their consciences, governed only by the
rule of God's word. And, second, those Puritan Fathers organized a
Christian State. They established their Congregational churches as the
official religion of Connecticut, supported by tax revenues and defended
by the coercive arm of government.
...
One hundred and fifty years later... (in 1787, after such horrors as the Salem Witch Trials of 1692 - BK)
... unlike the work of the Puritan Fathers, the federal constitution
made no reference whatever to God or divine providence, citing as its
sole authority "the people of the United States." Further, its stated
purposes were secular, political ends: "to form a more perfect Union,
establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquillity, provide for the common
defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of
Liberty." Instead of building a "Christian Commonwealth," the supreme
law of the land established a secular state. The opening clause of its
first amendment introduced the radical notion that the state had no
voice concerning matters of conscience: "Congress shall make no law
respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise
thereof."
In debating the language of that amendment, the first House of
Representatives rejected a Senate proposal that would have made possible
the establishment of the Christian religion or of some aspect of
Christian orthodoxy. There would be no Church of the United States. Nor would America represent itself to the world as a Christian Republic.

Their bequests were the ideas of separation of church and state and the
free exercise of religion extended to people of all faiths or no faith.
Their achievement can be understood only against the backdrop of the
American Revolution. Clearly, they were architects of a political
revolution, throwing off constitutional monarchy for a democratic
republic. But they were also framers of a religious revolution,
rejecting the idea of an established or official religion, which was the
organizing principle informing church-state relations in the vast
majority of countries, as indeed it had been in most of the American
colonies. Never before had there been such a total separation of
religious and political institutions. But the ban on establishment was
not the Founders' only legacy in church-state matters. Regarding
religion as a natural right that the governed never surrendered to
government, they prohibited any interference in citizens' rights to the
free exercise of religion.

Influenced by the Enlightenment, they had great confidence in the
individual's ability to understand the world and its most fundamental
laws through the exercise of his or her reason. To them, true religion
was not something handed down by a church or contained in the Bible but
rather was to be found through free rational inquiry. Drawing on radical
Whig ideology, a body of thought whose principal concern was expanded
liberties, the framers sought to secure their idea of religious freedom
by barring any alliance between church and state.

BT is Safe!

There, I said it first. Sure, Bacillus Thuringiensis is safe and effective when sprayed on even organic crops. The problem comes from inserting genes into embryos (seed) to cause the plant to produce it's own crystal protein toxins. While Corn is safe to eat, BT Corn is no longer Corn. It is an untested genetic experiment unleashed on an unsuspecting public - and it is proving to be bad.

Now, don't think I'm picking on corn. BT modification was first done on Potatoes. Peanuts also have been BT modified. And don't think that I'm picking on BT modification - any direct genetic manipulation that introduces a foreign gene into a food crop is ... simply wrong. Especially if it is not tested properly, which none of them have been.

Any product that the manufacturer fights against testing or labelling, should raise alarm bells for anyone of sound mind. Scientists are attacked for revealing any study that proves GMOs to be dangerous.

The process of gene splicing is just plain reckless. Basically, they break open a cell of the organism that has the desired trait, break it's genes apart and hope they suck up the right piece with a needle. Then they inject the genes into a developing seed or egg of the target organism - hoping that it will incorporate the desired gene into it's own genes. What other genes they are creating, they don't care. Antibiotic resistance, increased toxicity, decreased nutritional availability, increased allergens are all concerning possibilities.

Some claim that the GMO products will reduce the use of pesticide, which may be true. The insects eat the plant and the toxins paralyse their digestive system causing them to not eat and therefore starve to death. Those same toxins are found in the blood of people who consume GMO products - and their unborn babies.

But for Roundup-Ready varieties, they increase the use of herbicide. Farmers increase the use of Roundup and when the weeds become resistant, they up it again. Yet it still fails to increase the crop's yields.

So, while spraying live BT bacteria on crop plants - which can later be washed off - may be safe, creating a plant that produces the insecticide of that BT by itself - which can never be washed off - is not in any way the same thing and, by far, not at all safe.

Study Shows...
Real Wages...
Wages in America...

That last one has some fairly good statistics.

"The minimum wage is 21.4% less [in 2004] than it was in 1979"

"As one source has put it, "in 2000 a CEO earned more in one workday
(there are 260 in a year) than what the average worker earned in 52
weeks. In 1965, by contrast, it took a CEO two weeks to earn a worker's
annual pay".
"

"With 1992 as base year, productivity was at 82.2 in 1979. It grew to
94.2 by 1989 and 116.6 by the year 2000. In [2003], moreover, it
has exploded, putting it over 120. That's a nearly 40% increase"

"The overall picture is abundantly clear: real average hourly ages of
more than 100 million of American workers' are less today than 25 years
ago; real wages of college educated workers have risen only modestly in
the late 1990s and fallen since under Bush II; and real wages of the 10
million lowest paid workers have declined more than 21%."

With all that in mind, Corporate profits over the same time period have soared!

Profits skyrocket...
largest percentage of the country's gross domestic product (GDP) since
the 1950s. This ratio currently stands at just under 13 percent of GDP,
amounting to a total of US $1.9 trillion (see Figure 1). However, wage
and salary disbursements have been slowly trending downward from 47
percent of GDP in 1985 to 44.4 percent in the second quarter of 2011
(see Figure 2). These trends seem to point to increased inequality
between workers and managers, driven to some extent by the outsourcing
of lower-skilled jobs to Asia."

Looking at all this data from the perspective of a rising minimum wage - we can tell that there has been no such thing in the past 30 years, yet prices have still gone up. What has gone up along with prices? Executive compensation and Corporate profits.

The only thing that goes up with minimum wage increases is the health of the economy as a whole.

Study on Minimum Wage... (pdf)
So, I was reading Facebook posts and wound up at the Libertarian theory that if government didn't build roads, we wouldn't need roads. No, seriously - they think this! I will be using The Definitive Guide to Who Will Build the Roads as reference, since it prompted this post.

Roads have been around for well over Three Thousand years. Long before cars, there were roads. They have, since their invention, been made and maintained by large merchant organizations (Trade Associations) or a government for the purposes of trade or war. Some roads were made by people travelling from one location to another, but they usually linked up to a government built and maintained road.

"Where was Jesus going on the Road to Damascus?"

The private roads have already been tried, both in England and the United States.

Private individuals built roads themselves and then charged for their
use, usually blocking passage by setting a long pole (pike) across the
road. Once the toll had been paid, the pole would be swung (turned) out
of the way, allowing the travellers access to the road (turnpike). By
1829, 3,783 different turnpike companies operated 20,000 miles of
highway throughout England.

The People (bicyclists and farmers mostly) are responsible for the government taking on road building.

The first definite success of the fledgling Good Roads Movement was
achieved in 1891, when New Jersey became the first state to take
responsibility at the state level for improving roads and formed a State
Highway Department.

On to their Guide:

"If the government didn’t build the roads for cars, would people still be driving cars.
They could be driving off road vehicles that don’t need roads to be
build. If no one ever built the roads then car companies might have
developed the technology to hover above the ground instead of needing
roads. Naturally, this is all silly speculation but there is one
untouchable point.
We cannot predict whether we would need roads if government didn’t build them." (spelling errors left intact)

For one, the invention of cars prompted the building of better paved roads, not the other way around. Henry Ford built vehicles, people bought them, people demanded better roads, government responded with better roads. For another, hovercraft require flat surfaces without obstacles - also known as roads. As for needing roads if government didn't build them, that is kind of a moot point, really, because we have built and used roads of some type for thousands of years.

The author then goes on to equate good roads with slavery.

Asking, who will build the roads without government, is like asking, who will pick the cotton when we free the slaves.

I'm not going to respond to that, just pointed it out.

Why are roads the worlds go to source of transportation? Why aren’t we
carrying things on planes or trains? Why haven’t we invented hovercrafts
yet?

Why are roads the world's go-to source of transportation? The Free Market. It is the way we, as a people, have chosen to do transportation. We all walked the same path, wore it down into a trail, widened it into a road for wagons, paved it for ease and comfort of travel.

Why aren't we carrying things on planes or trains? We do. There is still a need to get people and goods from their point of origin to the airport or train station. Planes and Trains still need roads.

Why haven't we invented hovercrafts? We have. They have lots of issues. Also, they have not caught on with consumers. Feel free to buy one.

If there were no roads then car companies would have two choices. There
first option is build better off road cars. There other option is to
build the roads. (Again, bad grammar left intact. I'm sure the author intended "Their first option")

Car companies would build the roads? First of all, either the price of a car would go up dramatically or the car companies would have huge tolls on their roads. If you have travelled on a toll road or turnpike - imagine every inch of every road being a toll road!

You might be wondering how they could profit off building roads. That’s a
fair question. How does government profit off roads? Tolls are one
option. (No, if people had to make a profit off every road they wouldn’t
have toll booths. They could easily get car companies to put chips in
cars that count road usage.) The people that use the roads would pay for
the roads instead of the 300+ million people the United States
government currently charges

Government doesn't profit from roads, thereby keeping the taxpayer cost down. The author obviously has never been to a large city or been on a toll road. There are still toll booths, but you can buy an EZ-Pass for most turnpike systems. Imagine travelling from one side of the city to another. How many bills for road use would you get? How about travelling across a state or through several states? How many times would you have to stop and pay tolls if every road was a toll road and the company that owned that road changed every so many miles? Either you would have a massive corporation in control of all roads or lots of different bills from "your travel authority" for each stretch.

All these tolls to just use the road would be an extra burden on the already poor, who would likely be unable to use the road to even get to work.

The funny thing is, private road building companies could profit without even charging people that drive on the road.

How does the author imagine that to be the case? Sell advertising space on the road? Would that cover it? How much would that make prices go up?

Road front property is more valuable than non-road front property. Many
landowners would be begging for roads to be built on their property.
That’s because their property value would increase exponentially with a
road built through it.

Okay, so either property owners would have to charge more rent and be responsible for road maintenance or businesses along the roadway would chip in for road maintenance? Again, rising prices on everything.

You know what? The bottom line is that We, The People, have decided that we don't want to be controlled by large corporations. We want real freedom of travel. We have determined that we will all contribute to maintaining our roads. If you don't like it, you are free to chose to leave.

Government is non-voluntary. I can’t choose not to be a citizen of
America. I need permission to leave. I was born here. I did not agree to
that. I’m stuck here, following the rules until government approves of
my departure (I even have to pay to eliminate my citizenship. That’s not
voluntary.).

So, you'd like to leave - but you want someone else to pay for your passage out of here? You blame the government for not paying for your travel? Yet, you want to pay corporations just to be able to use the roads? From what I understand, you don't need a passport to go to Mexico or Canada - but you still have to pay your own way there.

It seems to me that you don't want freedom, what you really want is to be able to do anything you want without any consequences. That will never happen. Suck it up, buttercup. Actions have consequences no matter where you are.
While the Monty Python line was an insult from a Frenchman, the Elderberry is a very good berry!

From Elderberry wine to immune boosting syrups, the little black berry has been used for just about everything.

I just recently came back across the Elderberry information and am trying to get me a bottle of the juice, the syrup and some cuttings of the plants so I can grow some!

I found Elderberry Life, where you can get bare root plants or cuttings. I'll try the cuttings first. I am also going to get some of their juice!

One of the things that I am going to try with the Elderberries that I grow, is to make some Elderberry Mead. I think that will be a one-gallon brew for the first try-out. :) I may even use some of the juice from Elderberry Life to make a trial run.

I will try to remember not to eat too many raw berries or the leaves and other parts of the plant (tree?) - that could be bad.

Oracle has finally given some relief to Enterprises as of Java 7

“A new feature in Java
7 Update 40 is aimed at ameliorating this predicament. It's a change to the
local
security policy that allows large customers to specify a limited number of
apps that will run on older versions of Java. Now known as a deployment
rule set, the new instructions use a digitally signed certificate to
whitelist specific apps, often referred to as JARs or java archive files. Those
not on the list will be dropped, or possibly run on the latest Java version.”

To take advantage of the Deployment Rule Set, We need to
know every website or java applet that we need to Whitelist for our end users
in order to create the ruleset.xml, a Java Developer’s Kit installed, a Code
Signing Certificate and to distribute the “DeploymentRuleSet.Jar” file to all
endpoints.

The initial pain comes from doing a blanket block of all unknown java applets and vetting the ones that users call in to request access to. Of course, you want to find out as many of the internal URLs that run java apps and as many of the business-need URLs that users have to have as possible, but you will miss some. Users will call in, the .xml will have to be updated and the .jar will have to be rebuilt and re-sent.

Within the ruleset.xml, we can whitelist a java applet to
run without prompts (unless the certificate has been revoked), block it or just
use the default settings. We can also set which version of the JRE to use, so we can
identify apps that require older versions and set those to use those versions. This means that we do not need to uninstall
older versions – we can force any unlisted app to use JRE 7 or simply be
blocked, while sending only those applications that require older versions to
their specific version.

This is another futile effort to make people less stupid.

"Obamacare" is a set of Policies, Requirements and Regulations affecting the Health Insurance industry. It is impossible to enroll in Obamacare. It is impossible to not be affected by Obamacare. It is impossible to "Opt Out" of Obamacare - you can't "Opt In" either.

You can't "have Obamacare."

You can have Health Insurance as provided by a variety of Private Insurance companies - as you always have. Those insurance companies now have to adhere to a new set of regulations that do a better job of protecting YOUR interests.

You can't be dropped from coverage when you get sick

You can't be dropped from coverage if you made an honest
mistake on your application.

You also can't be denied coverage or
treatment for being sick

You can't be charged more for getting sick.

You can't be
charged more for just being a woman.

Most insurers must spend at
least 80 percent (85 percent for insurers covering large
employers) of the premiums you pay on medical care
and quality improvements. If insurers spend too much
on overhead, such as salaries, bonuses, or administrative
costs, as opposed to health care, they must issue
premium rebates to you each summer.

There are pros and cons as with any policy adjustment.

Most of the conversations I hear about Obamacare are full of misinformation and outright lies.

You can use a Health Insurance Exchange that was set up by the policies of The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act - also known as "Obamacare" or the ACA. If you don't have insurance provided by your employer or you are not happy with that insurance, you can go to a State HIE or the Federal HIE if your state is too stupid to have one set up (like Mississippi, even though we spent the money to set one up, the Guv blocked it being implemented). This allows you to shop around for all the Private Insurance offered through the exchange. It is like if you were employed by a mega corporation who offered various insurance plans through various insurance companies. The effect this has is to lower overall insurance premiums by spreading the risk pool - just like what large companies offer. The reason single or single family plans are so expensive is that there is no risk pool, its just that one, small group.

You can opt to not get health insurance and be charged a tax penalty instead of get health insurance for yourself. Not the most shining example of "Personal Responsibility," but you could choose to do that.
Willice decided that we need a deep freezer. We don't have any room in the house, so I decided that the best option was to get a Shed Kit and built it on the concrete parking pad beside the house - that we never use to park on.
We ordered the Majestic shed kit from Home Depot. I went a got some more 2x4s after it came in to reenforce the floor a little bit. The kit arrived on a flatbed truck and I tore into it immediately.
I got the foundation set up and leveled, with some help from George. I quickly decided that it was better to work in the shade. I used the canopy that I bought for taking to Thunder Ridge Motorcycle Rally.
The foundation plan called for 2' centers. I added a few 2x4s and came up with something a bit off... but stronger. The ones in the picture above are not screwed in, just laid out.
The plan called for having one 2x4 on this joint. I bought the steel plate and make it two 2x4s for a stronger foundation. There were two such joints, one on each side. The shed is 12' long and they used 1 8' 2x4 and a 4' 2x4 to make the span instead of one 12' - because it all had to fit nicely onto the pallet.
Floor is done and the walls are coming together! Well, I'm building the walls. George is helping after the first wall. Really need two people to lift if without breaking something. The lumber is 2x3 and warped. The walls also have the joint like the floor did, but I couldn't find a good way to make it sturdier. I don't think I'd find a good 12' 2x3.
I have wired up two power outlets, two switch-controlled power outlets to run the lights and a switch for the soon-to-be mounted outside motion detection flood light. Now I have to get an electrician to hook up the power. Well, make sure that I haven't gotten something messed up, then connect the power.
So, I just updated my workstation to Windows 8. We have a SAN - well, it was a SAN now its a NAS, but we still use the old name to get to everything since that was easier than changing every shortcut that went to it.

Anyway! I could not get to our SAN - or very many network computers - after I finished my update.

The Solution - which I could not find and hopefully you have - is setting a registry value and adding a DWord value. As below:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanWorkstation\Parameters]
"ServiceDllUnloadOnStop"=dword:00000001
"RequireSecuritySignature"=dword:00000000
"EnableSecuritySignature"=dword:00000001
"EnablePlainTextPassword"=dword:00000000
"OtherDomains"=hex(7):37,00,00,00
"RequireSecureNegotiate"=dword:00000000

Edit the Other Domains value to be 7
Add "RequireSecureNegotiate" and it should default to 0 (zero).

That fixes it all.

While we are on the subject of Windows 8 - some have complained that they can't run File Explorer as an admin. Here is the fix for that :

Create new shortcut on the desktop... right click in an open area and select "new" and select "shortcut."

For the location, type "explorer.exe" and click "Next."

Type a name in - like "File Explorer (Admin)" and click "Finish."

Right click on the new shortcut and select "properties." Click "Advanced."

Put a check mark in "run as administrator" and click "OK" until you are back at the desktop.

Presto! You can now browse as an admin!
Sometime soon, I plan to ride the entire Natchez Trace and back. The trip will take three days.

Well, one evening to get down to Natchez and camp, one day to get to the end of the Trace and backtrack to camp and one day to ride home via the Trace.

This will be a good test for my packing skills and camping endurance for The Oregon Trail ride in 2014.

The trip will be 125 miles on the first evening to get to the campground in Vidalia, LA, then 494 miles on the Trace itself for day 2, which includes 50 miles of backtracking to get to the Fall Hollow campsite for the night. That should make for 8 to 9 hours of riding time, plus stops for gas and food along the way. The last day will be an easy 320 something miles home - via my grandmother's house for a quick visit.

There is an article in Rider Magazine about a similar trip - only they stopped in Tupelo for the night.
I look forward to taking some photos and posting the trip blog!

Anyone want to join me?

Saw this in a comment on a gun site:

"Definition of a Democrat: Never let a good tragedy go to waste when it comes to the CORRUPT and SUBVERSIVE agenda of our SOCIALIST party."

I though I would add a few:

Definition of a Republican: Never let a good tragedy (we probably orchestrated) go to waste as long as there is profit to be had and benefit to the corrupt and cruel agenda of our FASCIST party.

Definition of a Liberal: Everyone has a right to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness - right up until it infringes on someone else's rights to the same.

Definition of a Conservative: I have the right to do anything I want to do no matter who else gets hurt, screw everyone else. It is my right to oppress anyone I am able to and the right of my corporate masters to oppress me any way they so desire!
